Maintaining a healthy lifestyle

Living a healthy lifestyle is just as much physical as it is mental for anyone, anywhere, no matter what age they are.

Being healthy is very important for the body itself.  Studies show that a healthier person is generally a happier person too.  There are only a few key steps to having and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.  It may not be as hard as people think.

Working out is a key point to being healthy.  Someone who doesn’t know much about being healthy may think that in order to have your body be in the best shape ever, you will need to go to the gym countless hours everyday for months in order to see results.  Although that theory seems logical, it is simply not true.  From the experts at www.bodybuilding.com even say that long hours in the gym won’t get you results you want.  Experts say in order to be healthy, it is 90% diet and 10% working out.  Even though you should only be working out 10% of the time, and that’s a low number, it is still important not to skip working out.

Some people may worry about the cost of gym memberships.  A gym membership can be anywhere
10$ a month at planet fitness, to 100$ a month for a three month membership to a higher end gym.  If you are the type of person who doesn’t like to go to the gym because the big body builders intimidate you, you don’t like people watching you work out, or if you simply don’t have enough time in the day to drive to the gym, there are alternatives.  There are many different reasons why people don’t go to the gym.  However, there are workout DVDs available for purchase online or even at any local vitamin shop, such as GNC or the Vitamin Shoppe.

Some of the most popular DVDs on the market now are P90x and Insanity.  These DVDs are perfect for people of all shapes ad sizes because they go from beginner to expert helping you make sure you have perfect form the whole way through.

90% diet may seem a bit aggressive but it is easier than one might think.  A lot of people who think about eating healthy think that the only way to eat healthy is to eat salad and greens for every meal.  That theory is also not true.  As far as eating healthy goes, the body does need things like fat and other nutrients that people might think are bad for them.  Too much fat however is bad.  The most important foods to stay away from when trying to diet are things like sugars, carbohydrates, sodium chloride, and processed food.

Some of the best foods with the best nutrients that aren’t bad for you are things like eggs, chicken, salmon, walnuts and almonds, quinoa and any type of fruit or vegetable.  There are many other healthy
foods that are good for the heart and mind as well.  Being that there is such a variety of healthy food the 90% of the diet shouldn’t be as hard as people think.

The next step to maintaining a healthy lifestyle is being mentally fit as well.  What that means is having the discipline to actually eat healthy and go to the gym when you need to.  A lot of people who want to be healthy report finding it hard to have that self-motivation to eat right and go to the gym regularly.  There are many ways to find that motivation you need to do it right.  On way to do it is to find a friend who wants to be healthy as well.  It is also fun to workout together and to try new healthy foods with your workout partner.  The point of having a partner help you through this is to motivate to get one more rep in the gym and to also tell you to put the sweets down.

There are other alternatives as well.  On www.beachbody.com there is a section of comments from other people who have motivational comments for those trying to find the motivation they need.  One commenter said “Ah man, I am just starting my second day of my fourth week of doing P90x and it’s so hard! But I know I can do it.  You can too, put your mind to it and you can do anything.”  That is just one of many comments.

A more direct way to get motivated is to get a fitnesscoach.  One can do this by either going to their local gym and getting a workout plan, or even online.  Also on www.beachbody.com you can get a fitness coach to help you with your meal plan as well as workout plans.

Being healthy isn’t just something to do when you are bored, it is a way of living. It's about finding out who you are.  It's about being fully committed to being healthy If you don’t know if you want to be healthy or not, or you think the transition to the 90/10 rule, try it for 2 weeks and see how you feel.  Think of it this way, it wouldn’t hurt to give the healthy lifestyle a chance.  It has many benefits for you.

CAR DRIVING

Ashley: What are you doing? Are you texting?

Tyler: Yeah its fine, don’t worry I do it all the time.  I’m a pro by now.

Ashley: Tyler you really shouldn’t text when you are driving, it really isn’t safe.

Tyler: Yeah, yeah, blah blah blah.  That’s why I type a few letters, then look at the road.  Then I type a few more letters then look at the road again.  Its easy, besides, nothing is going to happen to me.

Ashley: Have you never seen those commercials?  They always say anything can happen in a split second.  Besides, one day something might happen to you.

Tyler:  I’m just texting my dad and letting him know what I’m doing.

Ashley:  Well can’t you just tell him when we get there?  Every time you look at your phone you put both of our lives in danger.  And you keep swerving into the middle of the road!

CAR BEEPING

Tyler: (affirmative)  Seriously Ashley, just don’t worry….

MALE VOICE: Texting and driving contributes to around 5000 deaths a year.  The text can wait.

Immune Club meeting

Immune, a student ran organization at UNE gives students the opportunity to experience other countries’ medical systems and also to aid people in poor and developing countries at the end of each school year.
Immune is a club that always has something going on.  Immune works through another global organization called United Planet.  With the help of United Planet, Immune can figure out the cost of their trip for around 10-15 people.  Also, United Planet helps Immune coordinate accommodations and transportation for the trip.
At a typical meeting, club members usually will go over specific upcoming events.  The club’s next event is the Harvest Fest where they will try to gather up toys for underprivileged children in the countries that Immune students will visit.  Also, most recently, club leaders are helping the other club members with the application process to be able to have an opportunity to travel the Peru at the end of the year.
The club officers also help their fellow club members brush up on their Spanish speaking skills to be able to communicate with the citizens of Peru in which they will be aiding.
When Immune students arrive at their destination, presenting the children with these gifts is only one of the many things the Immune club members will do.   Members of Immune will also assist in building homes for those who are in need of them.  Also, immune members attending the trip volunteer at clinics.
Health and wellness major Meghan McNierney said “One of the most important things that we do for the people of these developing countries is dental clinics.”  Immune members teach the people they are aiding the importance of brushing their teeth.  They not only teach them the importance of teeth brushing, but how to do it as well.
Many UNE students who are apart of the Immune club have done service trip abroad before and are taking the chance to do it again.  Students who haven’t gone abroad are really just looking for experience in their field of study.  Medical Biology major Jakob Creighton  “I joined the club hoping to gain experience in Med Bio and I also really want to make an impact on those people who need help the most.”
Every trip Immune does is quintessential because the UNE students who attend these trips really do educate the people of these poor countries how to keep themselves safe by living a healthier lifestyle.

"Today, the U.S. ranks Number One in the world in productivity per worker.  That has both advantages and disadvantages for workers, their families and employers."
"On the upside, american families are enjoying more prosperity ,but not due solely to rising wages.  More family members are working especially among black and hispanic families.  During the last 10 years, the average middle-class families income rose 9.2% after inflation, but the typical families wage earners had to spend 6.8% percent more time at work to reap it.  Without increasing from wives, the average middle-class family's income would has risen only 3.6%.  The share of married women working full time rose from 41-46%.  Plus, the average workers workweek has risen from about 38 hours of full time work to about 41 hours per week.  Executives work an average of
