Police and divers recovered a missing sign that read, "PLEASE DO NOT THROW THINGS INTO THE COVE" at the bottom of Perkins Cove in Ogunquit, Maine this past July.
Perkins Cove in Ogunquit Maine, a quaint peninsula filled with shops and restaurants, rarely sees police officers hard at work other than giving parking tickets to tourists trying to push the time limits of the spaces. However one hot day in July, the Lobster Shack employees along with all the passing pedestrians found themselves trying figure out what was going on.
There were police officers lining the docks outside of the busy restaurant looking very concerned. The boss of the restaurant was curious as to why there was so many police presence so he wandered outside to see what he could find out. Politely asking a nearby officer what was going on, the officer simply replied with “Sir, we are looking for something.” That short answer had everyone's minds racing as to what it could possibly be.
About an hour later everyone who was watching saw a scuba diver emerge from the water and hop up onto the dock holding what appeared to be a sign in his hand. As he came off the docks everyone noticed exactly what the object was. It was a sign that n all capital letters read “PLEASE DO NOT THROW THINGS INTO THE COVE." Someone feeling rebellious the night before must have removed the sign from the post and tossed it into the water.
The workers of the Lobster Shack and the pedestrians all had a good laugh about it. Many people just thought it was surprising to see the police put so much effort into finding this sign that said to not throw things into the water, at the bottom of the cove. One might say that this is irony at its finest.
This is actually really good. I'm not going to try and follow up that on my blog..
