A new crew team has been established by Sebastian Sannajust at UNE because of the school's convinient location on the Saco River.
Sebastian Sannajust, captain of the
new crew team at UNE said “When I came to UNE, I noticed a perfect place for
crew, the Saco River.” Sannajust took the steps necessary to start up a team. Crew is
very fast growing sport among colleges all over the world. UNE crew hopes to develop fast enough so it can participate in the “Head of the Charles” race in a few years.
Many students are eager to join the
crew team as an opportunity to try a new sport and to meet new
people. Taylor Marosi, a sophomore Marine Bio major, said, “I am excited
to join the crew team, it’ll get me in great shape!”
UNE is offering two types of crew
teams. The recreational team is for kids
who are interested in doing crew but don’t really know much about it. And for those who have done it before and
want a more competitiveness, there will be an actual team that will hold
tryouts. The season will be a year long. During the winter, the team will be in the gym working out and preparing themselves for a very rigorous fall and spring training on the water.
The UNE community is proud to announce the first boat launch within the next two weeks. It is important to sign up while you can. The sign up process is easy. You can see Brian Wallace in the Campus Center, or contact Sebastian Sannajust himself.
